John Miller ‘Big Band’ Orchestra – Fly To The Past airshow – August 21st

Having interviewed John for the Oxfordshire family airshow – ’Fly To The Past’ – I am really looking forward to hearing him and his Big Band on the evening of 21st August at Oxford airport.
John is the nephew of the legendary WWII band leader Glenn Miller and started his career singing with his fathers band.
Big Band music was part of my youth. My parents met at a WWII dance while Dad was in the RAF and so Glen Miller and other Big Band records were always in the gramaphone. Sadly most of those original 78′s were thrown out when the gramaphone went but they replaced them with LPs and then CDs.

Francis Rockliff – Festival Director
In this podcast I talked to Francis Rockliff of Rockliff Productions who is the Festival Director of Fly To The Past. I spoke to Francis about his career in film and TV soundtrack music that led to the promotion of benefit concerts in aid of the Royal Navy Historic Flight for ex Fleet Air Arm officer and Beatles’ producer, Sir George Martin. We also talked about his history of flight show, Fly To The Past, which is happening at London Oxford Airport on August 21st 2011.
He told me about how it will present a unique day of flight-themed entertainment on the ground and in the air. He reveals how he will direct a high quality audio-visual, live production using giant screens and pre-recorded archive soundscapes to bring to life the history of flight by bird, man and machine.
With three highly successful shows previously at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire to over 45,000 spectators, Francis reveals the show’s future expansion and move to London Oxford Airport for 2011.
The largest diference in 2011 will be the full use of London Oxford Airports facilities. At previous Fly To The Past events at Blenheim Palace aircraft could not land or be part of a static display. At the airport full use of the ground facilities will mean that the audience can interact with the ground display aircraft.
The static and airborne displays plus all the ground entertainment should add up to a really fun family day out. The only thing left to organise is the weather!
Podcast interviews – pilots and organisers – August 2011 event
One of the fun things of working with the Fly To The Past team on their event has been interviewing the people behind the event like Francis Rockliff (Festival Director), John Davis (Flying Display Director) and Chris Orphanou (MD of London Oxford Airport).
In the time left before the event on August 21st we hope to be talking to some of the pilots and some of the people running activities and events on the ground.
